Current and Former Coaches

Shaun McQueen (Founder)

Shaun moved to Canmore in 2006 from England where he gained a wealth of sports coaching experience in  Soccer, Rugby, Cricket and Track. He is a level 3 Community Soccer Coach. Shaun took over the role of Technical Director for Canmore Minor Soccer Club in 2007 and has helped the club develop its program by adding summer camps, indoor soccer and representative teams across the U12 - U18 age groups. Shaun has been teaching a variety of subjects at elementary and high schools in the Bow Valley since 2008.

Marc Geestman

Marc Geestman grew up playing soccer in the Netherlands, where soccer is the country's #1 sport and national obsession. He has coached high school U-18, adult, U-7, U-8, U-10 and U-12 teams. Currently he is the head coach for the U-12 Canmore Avalanche girls team, which plays in the Calgary League. His big passion is in developing players with the principles of Total Football, still practiced today by Ajax Amsterdam, Barcelona, Manchester City and other teams. The principles are technique, keeping possession of the ball, fitness, using both feet, position switching and high pressure defense. His coaching examples are Johan Cruyff, Pep Guardiola and Rinus Michels. He has two daughters, and works and coaches senior girls basketball at Banff Community High School.

Tim Stafford

Originally from the UK, Tim moved to Canada in 2010 following many summer and winter trips to the Rockies. He has coached at many levels of the game, from Cub Scout through to District Representative teams and everything in between. After gaining the English FA Preliminary Coaching Certificate (equivalent to C license) in 1993, he coached for several months in the USA. He subsequently became a qualified referee, and has attended a Soccer for Life NCCP Community Coaching workshop. He uses a teamwork approach to developing soccer players that gain success by thinking with their head and playing with their heart. In addition to his passion for the game of soccer, he also enjoys teaching young skiers, holding a CSIA Level 1 Instructor certificate, and is a substitute teacher in the Bow Valley.

Junior Coaches

These guys really help out during the week. They've mostly been campers themselves in previous years. Their enthusiasm shows as they help the older coaches with skill demonstrations, setting up stations and encouraging younger participants.
